THE HOME OF SEVENS

Born at the Greenyards in 1883, Melrose Sevens is the original rugby sevens tournament. What started as a new way to play the game has grown into a global sport, but its story still begins here. More than 140 years later, we continue to bring together world-class rugby, the next generation of players and a community united by its love of the game.

Melrose is where rugby sevens was founded. First played on the Greenyards in 1883, what began as a local fundraising idea sparked a global sporting movement – one that’s now celebrated in stadiums and festivals around the world.

More than 140 years on, the Melrose Sevens still captures that same energy and excitement – world-class rugby, electric crowds, and the unmistakable buzz of the Greenyards. From local clubs to international stars, this is the home of the sevens.
