MORE THAN A TOURNAMENT
From the next generation taking to the pitch to some of the best Sevens rugby around, Melrose Sevens returns for a packed weekend of rugby, food, entertainment and celebration at the home of the game.
In 2027, the action builds across three days, with Hall of Fame celebrations, boys’ and girls’ rugby, coaching clinics, the Family Food Village, Fanzone, hospitality and live entertainment - before the main Men’s and Women’s competitions take centre stage on Saturday.
THURSDAY 20 MAY
Wreath Laying Ceremony
The weekend begins by remembering the history and people behind Melrose Sevens, with our traditional wreath laying ceremony marking the heritage of the game born here in 1883. A fitting start to a weekend that celebrates both the history and future of Sevens rugby.

FRIDAY 21 MAY
Girls’ U18 Sevens
New for 2027
For the first time, an U18 Girls’ competition joins the Melrose Sevens programme.
Young players will compete in their own Sevens tournament as we continue to grow the women’s and girls’ game and create a pathway from youth rugby through to our senior Women’s competition.
Girls’ Rugby Clinic
A special coaching experience for young female players, with a chance to develop their skills, enjoy Sevens rugby and be inspired by the players and coaches around them.
Whether already playing or relatively new to rugby, the emphasis will be on confidence, skills and having fun.
Merchiston Rugby Clinic
Young players will have the opportunity to take part in a dedicated rugby clinic delivered with Merchiston, combining high-quality coaching with the chance to experience the atmosphere of Melrose Sevens.
